Throwback Extraodinary Fashionista: Josephine Baker

"Bronze Venus", the "Black Pearl", the "Creole Goddess" some may wonder how did Josephine Baker live up to these nicknames. I can say with grace and style.  I'm always in awe when I gaze at photos of Josephine Baker, a singer, dancer, actress, activist and spy. Her humble spirit about her stunning appearance was caught when she quoted,

"Beautiful?, It's all a question of luck. I was born with good legs. As for the rest...beautiful, no. Amusing, yes."

What I love most about this legendary fashion icon, is that whatever role Baker played off and onstage, she dressed the part and looked effortless. It was extremely hard to choose, but here are a couple of my favorites looks.

Artsy Escape: Monique Lhuillier Resort 2013

Monique Lhuillier resort  2013 collection screams prints and color galore and I love it. The feminine colors and the quirky silhouettes added an artsy feel to each garment. Neon colors, fuchsia, lime green, bright orange and yellow were instilled in almost every piece to create the perfect palette for an exotic getaway. In the words of Lhuillier "I toughened up my offering with a not-so-pretty silhouettes and quirky twists".

Impossible Conversations: Schiaparelli and Prada

This weekend I was in NYC and went to the The Metropolitan Museum to see the new exhibition Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations. It is a must see with many inspirational words by both designers.. All I can say is wow.

Here is the introduction from the Met's website.
The Met's Spring 2012 Costume Institute exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, explores the    striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras. Inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s, the exhibition features orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work. Iconic ensembles are presented with videos of simulated conversations between Schiaparelli and Prada directed by Baz Luhrmann, focusing on how both women explore similar themes in their work through very different approaches.

                                                                      Enjoy the video

Here are some of my favorite looks.

Fashionista Wear: The Narrow Path

Go into the narrow gate, because broad and spacious is the road leading off into destruction, and many are the ones going in through it; whereas narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it ~Matthew 7:13,14

I love walking along this path
I love life, sometimes you just have to take a slow stroll and appreciate your surroundings
