Fashionista Wear: Croc and Glitter

The other night I attended, African Underground at the Smithsonian museum. A celebration of women in African and African American history in culture. This is what I wore before the show.

Dress-vintage, fur vase- designed by me, gold lion belt vintage

Crocodile skin clutch from Ghana. dress was embroidered with hand sewn African shells and beads

Miu Miu gold glitter peep-toe pump

1980's vintage earrings- very windy night in the nation's capitol

One last look

 Have a great week!

Oscars's dazzling brides

Visions in white, the color that stole the show. Considering that wedding season is soon approaching, white/pearl/ivory was the color of choice for the 2012 Oscars.  I absolutely loved the dreamy and glitzy effect. These are a couple of my favorite looks.

Oscars red carpet: Milla Jovovich
Milla Jovovich: Elie Saab, beaded one shoulder gown
Oscars red carpet: Rooney Mara, Best Actress nominee, in Givenchy Couture
Rooney Mara: Givenchy couture - laced mermaid gown
Mara said her dress was modern and romantic all the combinations she likes
Oscars red carpet: Octavia Spencer, Best Actress nominee, in Tadashi Shoji
Octavia Spencer: Tadashi Shoji beaded gown
Jennifer Lopez: Zuhair Murad dress-Silk tulle and transparent beading

Enjoy!

Fashion is subjective

I always say fashion is subjective. Take for example three different trends that I spotted at the Lincoln center and see how everyone put their spin on it.

Whats the wildest way to wear a fur hat

Translations of color popping (not blocking)

Interpretations of black

Lesson: sometimes fashion is just what it is fashion. You can't take yourself or others too seriously.

                                                       Enjoy!!!

NYFW: Mara Hoffman

Mara Hoffman's fall 2012 collection was inspired by "South American Shaman Gauchos (cowboys)". It was as though they have been riding on horses all day, except they didn't get dusty. Seriously I was blown away, by all the looks, they were casual, flowy and vibrant. Hoffman said she wanted the clothes to get the movement that they deserved on the runway. After the show I told a friend that, I want to go to an island, with every outfit in this collection and stand in the wind facing the ocean. What a photographic moment that will be.

NYFW: Reem Acra

Reem Acra, bought out a bevy of thrilling new look for her fall 2012 collection which was inspired by "feminine power". Acra quoted " I Wanted to convey a sense of power through strong, secondhand silhouettes".   One thing is for sure, I felt the power through her fabric choice. Once again leather and sequins are here to stay.

NYFW: Zang Toi brings on the Glamazons

Zang Toi

It was all about Hollywood glamour with a western influenced fantasy at Zang Toi this year. Toi quoted "I want the clothes to be very glamorous. It's about glamour and gorgeous clothes for gorgeous girls." No doubt it was glamorous as the models walked out in groups of radiant colors, starting with white, red, black and mixtures. The constant mix of Adele brought out the rowdiness in the already packed show, which the designer received a standing ovation. BRAVO!

Guest Blogger: MeraBell covers NYFW Sally LaPointe

I was honored to have Merabell a Georgetown University student with a major in sports management, cover the Sally LaPointe collection at NYFW. That is what ordinary fashionistas is all about; fashion lovers from different backgrounds. Thanks, Merabell, wonderful coverage!

Hosted at the Zach Feuer Art Gallery, Sally LaPointe Fall 2012 collection was just as dramatic as the venue, with red paint dripping down the walls, semi-finished ceilings and smoke haze in the air added a sort of mischief and "je ne sais quoi" ambiance to the show. Her use of flowy chiffon pants and dresses in sapphire and gold prints really brought the theatricals. My personal favorite was the black cocktail dress with a cutout in the middle, pictured below. What a thrilling show and I loved every moment of it...Merabell.

New York Fashion Week: Nautica Men's Collection

I'm in the big Apple for New York Fashion week  Fall 2012 Collections. What a way to start out with the Nautica Men's Fall 2012 show. Seriously I couldn't choose what I enjoyed the most, the vibrant clothing or gorgeous male models. Trust it was a hard decision.

The collection was inspired by iconic watermen of  the American Northeast coast. Here are a couple of looks from the show and a video clip taken by yours truly.

I love a nice coat on a man

Nautica always has the best array of colors

Well proportioned casual wear

I want that orange windbreaker

Great leather jacket

Every man should own a white blazer
